He Ngākau Mātua

KAUPAPA 

He Ngākau Mātua supports young parents aged 13-24 years by recognizing their strengths, supporting their sense of belonging and identity, and being inclusive of Te Ao Māori and the Pasifika way of life. He Ngākau Mātua delivers on both 1-on-1 social work support as well as group support. He Ngākau Mātua supports young parents to be the best that they can be for themselves and their tamariki and whānau. He Ngākau Mātua is also proudly connected to the wider community and supported by the services of Te Aroha Noa.

WHAT WE DO:

  • Build goals and create plans based on these goals.
  • Support young parents in creating healthy visions for their whānau, home, and relationships.
  •  Educate young parents on building strong attachments with their tamaiki.
  • Group and 1-on-1 sessions on practical parenting support.
  • Educate young parents about child development.
  • Support young parents with health and education referrals.
  • Group work where everyone is encouraged to build relationships.
  • Keep young parents informed and up-to-date with relevant legislation and social changes.
  • Provide advice around cooking, hygiene practices, health, and home support.
  • Provide connections to other community resources where needed.
